NHK Broadcasting Suteki ni Handmade
2024 January 4 – February 1
Jorie was asked to contribute to the production of the first 2024 programming of the NHK television program Suteki ni Handmade, introducing Noriko Tachibana’s felt tote bags.
In two clips, Jorie explains about the dynamics of the wool fiber and why it entangles. Followed later in the program by introducing a pair of embroidered ladies’s boots from Dagestan and images she took of the oldest felt hats from the “Little River Cemetery”, Xinjiang, 2000-1000BC.

NHK Broadcasting Suteki ni Handmade
2011 July 14th & July 21st
Jorie designs the Morning Glory Stole for the NHK television program Suteki ni Handmade which is also accompanied by a magazine of the same name (Issue 2011/07). Using cotton fabric as a base, the fabric flowers are attached with wool and through the traditional feltmaking process. The magic of this technique is that stitching is not required.

Jorie introduces both hat-making and the application of wool onto a silk base for an elegant mini stole. Various equipment explanations, such as making your own hat form and how to use a template for making three-dimensional work is demonstrated. The focus point of the brimmed hat is a flower motif that is cut open after completion.
