The 3rd Biennale of Natural Dyes (BoND 3)

JoiRae Textiles’ Shōsō-in Kasen 17 Replica Portion (No. 2) was selected for the Contemporary Art and Design Exhibition: Natural Dyes and Colors of Nations to be held at the China National Silk Museum in Hangzhou.
Jorie will be giving a presentation on the 8th century Shōsō-in felt rugs (kasen), followed by a two-day hands-on feltmaking workshop.
The workshop theme will be “How to make a floral pattern similar to the 8th C. Tang fashion of the time.”　

Sappanwood, Indigo, and Pagoda Bud will be used to create the 7 beautiful colors of wool we expect to use during the workshop. Chieko Nakamura assisted me with the wool dyeing process during the workshop.
