The China National Silk Museum in Hangzhou is presenting BoND4 – Biennale of Natural Dyes this year.
Jorie has been invited back this December for her talk on “Felt Treasures at the Eastern Depot of the Silk Road”. Kyoto and Nara, the oldest capitals of Japan, were fundamentally the last depots of the Silk Road to the far east. There, wool felts, objects of fascination and desire have been accumulated over the centuries, perhaps because Japan was a land of sericulture, not of sheep.
In addition to speaking, she will be leading a two-day workshop focusing on natural Sumi ink application on silk in combination with felt making practices. Even with limited time, she will teach both motif design with Sumi ink and laminating fine wool with the pattern-applied silk scarf.
