FILT Kunst, Teknik, Historie by Annette Damgaard

This Danish publication was compiled and written by one of the producers of the International Felt Symposium and Juried Exhibition in Aarhus, Denmark in 1990. Jorie Johnson’s wall-work “Morning Glories- Evening Glories” was featured as an example of contemporary use of “intarsia” design technique. This employs the positive and negative design cut from two pieces of felt and then interexchange, like a jigsaw puzzle piece. In this case, though, Johnson used soft sheets of handmade felt with the intension of further felting them together into a stable fabric without the need for stitching, as seen in the traditional Kazakh work appearing on the same page.
